EarMatch Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 24, 2026

In short: EarMatch has no ads and no tracking. Your liked songs, playlists and preferences stay on your phone. If you choose to use Friends, we store a small profile so the friends you accept can see it. We never sell your personal data.

What stays on your device

EarMatch saves the following only on your iPhone, so the app can remember them between sessions:

Unless you use Friends (below), this information is never sent to us. It is deleted when you delete the app.

Friends (optional)

Friends is optional, and the rest of EarMatch works without it. If you sign in to Friends (with Apple, Google, or an email and password), EarMatch stores the following on Google Firebase, which runs our servers:

Anyone signed in to Friends can find your username, name and level by searching. Only people you've accepted as friends can see the rest of your profile. You can remove or block anyone at any time.

If someone reports a profile, EarMatch opens the reporter's email app with a message to us containing the reported username, name and account ID, the reason and any note. We review reports and can remove a name or an account that breaks the rules.

To delete all of this, open Friends, tap the gear icon and choose Delete account. Your data is removed from our servers right away, and if you signed in with Apple or Google, EarMatch's access to that account is revoked. Google's handling of this data is covered by the Firebase privacy information.

Music from Apple

To show you songs, EarMatch asks Apple's music services (the iTunes Search API and the Apple Music API) for charts, song previews, album artwork and artist details. These requests include your country, so you get local charts, and any artist or song names you search for. Short song previews are stored temporarily on your phone while they play and are deleted later. Apple's handling of this information is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.

If you allow EarMatch to access Apple Music, the app uses it to show artist photos and names, find artists similar to the ones you like, and add songs you choose to your Apple Music library. You can change this anytime in your iPhone's Settings.

Moving songs to other apps

When you choose to open a song in Spotify, YouTube Music or Apple Music, EarMatch opens that app or website, and its own privacy policy applies. If you use the TuneMyMusic website to move a list of songs, the list you paste is handled by TuneMyMusic under its privacy policy. If you connect EarMatch to Spotify or YouTube to create a playlist, you sign in on their own pages, and the access they give EarMatch is used only to create that playlist and is not saved by us.

Reporting a song

If you report a song, EarMatch opens your email app with a message to us containing the song's name, artist and Apple ID, the reason you chose, and any note you add. You see the email and decide whether to send it. We use reports only to review and remove songs, and the message comes from your own email address. Songs you hide or report are remembered only on your phone.

What we don't do

Children

Most of EarMatch needs no account, and when you are signed out nothing personal is collected at all. Creating an account for Friends requires you to be at least 13 years old. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if we learn that an account belongs to someone under 13 we delete the account and everything stored with it. A parent or guardian who believes we hold such information can write to AEI@earmatchapp.com and we will remove it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
