EarMatch Community Rules
Last updated: October 24, 2026
In short: most of EarMatch is just you and the music, and needs no account. The moment you sign in for Friends you can be seen by other people — through your username and your display name. These are the rules for that part, and they apply from the moment you sign in.
What is not allowed
Your username and display name must not contain:
- Slurs, hate speech, or anything attacking people for their race, religion, nationality, gender, sexuality or disability.
- Threats, harassment, or content encouraging violence against anyone.
- Extremist or terrorist symbols, slogans or praise.
- Sexually explicit names.
- Impersonation of another person, artist or organisation.
- Spam, advertising, or links to other services.
There is no tolerance for sexual content involving minors. Accounts that post it are removed permanently and reported to the authorities.
Who may use Friends
You must be at least 13 years old to create an EarMatch account. The rest of the app — listening, swiping, saving and playlists — needs no account and has no age requirement beyond the App Store rating.
What we do about it
- Usernames and display names are checked automatically against a list of slurs and extremist phrases, and rejected if they match.
- Any user can block another user. A blocked person cannot send you a request or see your profile.
- Any user can report a song or an account from inside the app.
- Reports are reviewed and acted on within 24 hours. Accounts that break these rules have the offending content removed, and repeat or serious breaches are banned outright.
Reporting something
Use the report option inside the app, or write to AEI@earmatchapp.com. Tell us the username and what you saw. If you are reporting an urgent safety issue, say so in the subject line.
Deleting your account
You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app, under Friends › Account (gear icon) › Delete account. This removes your profile, username and friend connections. Your liked songs stay on your own phone, where they always were.
Changes
If these rules change, the date at the top changes with them.
